Spiritual Warfare

Standing firm in truth when the battle isn't against flesh and blood

Introduction

Spiritual warfare sounds dramatic, but Paul's picture is specific: you're in a real fight, against a real enemy, with real equipment provided for it. It is not a call to see a demon behind every hardship, mood, or conflict.

Scripture names the enemy's actual strategies, gives you armor to stand in rather than a ritual to perform, and ends the whole passage the same place it should end for you — not in fear, but in a victory Christ already won.

Scripture

Ephesians 6:12

We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world.

Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

John 16:33

In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Translation note: Scripture quotations are from the King James Version (KJV). The King James Version is in the public domain.
