Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
Grounded is designed to be a private, personal experience focused on reflection, reading, and spiritual growth.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how your information is handled.
Information we collect
You may use some Grounded features as a guest or create an optional account. For guests and signed-in users, Grounded may use anonymous or session identifiers and collect app interactions, screens or features used, session activity, platform or device type, general technical information, and attribution information such as referral or UTM data.
If you create an account, Grounded collects your email address, account and user identifiers, and any optional profile information you provide. These support authentication, account features, synchronization, and subscription access. Your email is not sold.
If you join Stay Connected on the Grounded website, or opt into weekly encouragement emails in the app, Grounded stores your email address, signup time, signup source, and consent details so we can send Scripture, resources, encouragement, and product updates you requested. You can unsubscribe at any time from Settings or from the link in any email.
If you opt into daily Scripture texts, Grounded stores your mobile number, consent time, consent source, the exact disclosure you agreed to, and unsubscribe status. Texts are optional. Consent is not required to create or use a Grounded account and is not a condition of purchase. Message frequency is approximately 1 message per day. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe or HELP for help. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. You can turn this off in Settings.
Information Grounded may process includes:
- Anonymous and session identifiers, app interactions, feature activity, and product analytics
- Device type, platform, and general request or technical information
- Account identifiers, profile information, and synchronized app content for signed-in users
- Email address and marketing-email consent if you opt into weekly encouragement emails
- Mobile number and SMS consent if you opt into daily Scripture texts
- Attribution, referral, and UTM information used to understand how people find and use Grounded
- RevenueCat identifiers, subscription status, product and entitlement information, and Apple or Google transaction information
- Limited app activity signals used for install attribution and campaign measurement on iOS (see Meta App Events below)
Your personal content
Your journals, reflections, saved prayers, saved verses, reading and journey progress, preferences, sermon notes and photographs, and similar content may be stored locally on your device. If you sign in, supported content may also be synchronized through Supabase so it is available with your account.
This content is not public or available to other Grounded users through the app. Grounded does not sell your personal content or use it for third-party behavioral advertising. Grounded and its service providers may process content as needed to provide synchronization, storage, AI-supported features, security, and other app functionality described in this policy.
AI processing
Grounded includes AI-supported features such as Guidance, prayer generation, scripture explanations, book and chapter explanations, verse emphasis, and sermon analysis. When you choose to use an AI-supported feature, Grounded transmits the information needed to generate the requested response to Grounded’s API and an AI service provider.
Depending on the feature, this information may include:
- Your Guidance situation, theme, follow-up, and relevant context from a previous Guidance response
- Prayer input and relevant emotion, theme, scripture, or other context you select
- Scripture, verse, book, or chapter content and references
- Sermon transcript excerpts and related title or channel information
OpenAI powers several of these features. Anthropic powers certain features that rely on its service, including verse emphasis. When an applicable feature uses OpenAI or Anthropic, the content needed to provide that feature may be transmitted to and processed by that provider. Grounded does not require you to include identifying information in AI inputs, but free-form text may contain personal information if you choose to provide it. Provider retention and processing are governed by the applicable provider’s terms and settings; Grounded does not make a zero-retention or model-training guarantee in this policy.
If you report an AI-generated response, Grounded collects the report reason, any optional comment you provide, an account or anonymous/session identifier, a feature and output identifier/hash, AI provider/model information when available, app/platform/build information, and the report time. The report does not automatically attach the AI response or your private prompt, prayer, journal entry, Guidance message, study answer, or sermon notes. Grounded uses this information to investigate safety, quality, and reliability concerns.
How your information is used
Information is used to:
- Improve app functionality and performance
- Enhance user experience
- Maintain reliability and stability
- Operate subscriptions and account features
- Send optional Stay Connected emails and, when you opt in, daily Scripture texts
- Measure campaign performance and app installs (where applicable)
Grounded may disclose information to service providers that help operate the app, host and synchronize data, generate requested AI responses, obtain sermon transcripts, measure campaign performance, process subscriptions, provide platform functionality, maintain security, and improve reliability. Grounded does not sell personal information.
Grounded does not knowingly share personal information for unrelated third-party behavioral advertising. Data may still be processed by service providers for analytics, attribution, app operation, subscription management, security, and campaign measurement.
Third-party services
Grounded uses trusted third-party service providers to operate the service, including providers for:
- hosting, database, storage, synchronization, authentication, and security;
- AI-supported features and sermon/video processing;
- subscription and payment management;
- analytics, attribution, app-store platform services, communications, SMS, and push notifications.
These providers may process information as necessary to provide their respective services and are subject to their own terms and privacy practices.
Current providers include services such as Supabase, OpenAI, Anthropic, Supadata, YouTube, RevenueCat, Vercel, SendGrid, Twilio, Apple, Google / Google Play, and Meta / Facebook. The providers Grounded uses may change as the app evolves.
Meta App Events
Grounded uses the Meta SDK on iOS to receive limited information about app installs, app activation, and campaign performance. Advertiser identifier collection is disabled, and Grounded does not request permission to access the IDFA. Meta may process automatically logged app event and device information according to its own privacy terms. See Meta’s Privacy Policy.
In the current implementation:
- Meta App Events auto-logging is enabled for basic activation and install-related signals.
- Advertiser ID collection in the Meta SDK is disabled.
- Grounded does not request App Tracking Transparency permission.
- Grounded does not use the IDFA in the current implementation.
- The Grounded app does not currently send custom Meta purchase or user-defined events.
There is no Android Meta SDK or web Meta Pixel in the Grounded app itself at this time. The public Grounded marketing website may use Meta Pixel to measure visits, App Store link clicks, and advertising performance. Product analytics used to improve Grounded are sent to our own analytics pipeline (via Supabase), separate from Meta.
Grounded Facebook Page comments
When you comment on a post on the public Grounded Facebook Page, Meta may send Grounded information needed to receive, review, and respond to that comment. This may include the Page and post identifiers, comment and parent-comment identifiers, comment text, the commenter name and Meta-provided identifier, event time, and limited comment context.
Grounded stores this information in its Supabase-hosted comment-processing records so the comment can be associated with the correct Page post, duplicate events can be avoided, and a future Page response can be tracked. Receiving a comment does not automatically publish a reply. Grounded does not store Meta access tokens or credentials in these comment records.
You can delete your original comment through Facebook. To request deletion of Grounded’s stored copy of a Grounded Page comment, follow the instructions on the Grounded data deletion page.
Data security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no system can guarantee 100% security.
Retention
Grounded retains information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the app and the purposes described in this policy, maintain security and reliability, comply with legal or transaction-record obligations, and establish, exercise, or defend claims or resolve disputes. Retention may vary by data type and service provider. Grounded does not promise a specific retention period where one has not been established.
Account deletion
If you create an account, you can delete it in Settings → Account → Delete account. The in-app deletion process removes your Supabase Auth account, account-linked content and storage objects, linked analytics and presence records, push registrations, and Grounded private data stored in the app on that device. It also ends active Grounded email and SMS enrollment and removes the linked RevenueCat customer profile where applicable.
Some information may remain where reasonably necessary, including unlinked email/SMS suppression and consent evidence, transaction and delivery-audit records, fraud or security records, and provider logs or backups subject to provider retention practices. Apple and Google retain store transaction and subscription records under their own requirements. Deleting a Grounded account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. You can email support@getgroundedapp.com for help.
Your privacy rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights concerning your personal information, such as requesting access, correction, deletion, or portability; restricting or objecting to certain processing; or submitting a complaint or appeal. These rights may be subject to legal exceptions. Contact us using the email below to make a request.
International processing
Grounded and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Privacy and data-protection laws may differ across those locations.
Children’s privacy
Grounded is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
